Equine Program
Horses are incredible animals. They seem to sense when people have special needs and they try their best to adapt to meet those needs. These gentle giants are unbelievably compassionate and completely non-judgmental creatures. Being around and riding horses can be extremely therapeutic for children with special needs.
Pitt Academy began an Equine Program open to students in the Spring of 2009, which focuses on the care of the horse, leading the horse and riding. Classroom work includes learning the anatomy of the horse, tack and breeds of horses. The program also helps students develop discipline, communication, self-esteem, and physical skills such as balance and muscle tone.
As an addition to our School-to-Work Program, selected high school students go to the barn and work on developing skills that could lead to jobs in the horse industry.
The Equine Program is not included in Pitt Academy's tuition and is a separate cost.
